Cancer Society sets relay for life
The American Cancer Society's inaugural Relay For Life will begin 7 p.m. Saturday and run until 9 a.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church.
Teams of 10 to 15 members will gather at the church for the 14-hour relay against cancer. Team members will take turns walking around the track during the overnight event.
All of the funds raised through Relay For Life will go directly to the American Cancer Society's lifesaving programs, which include research, education, advocacy and patient services.
To form a team or volunteer for Relay For Life, call the American Cancer Society at 798-6877, Ext. 14.
Children's Miracle Network on TV
University Medical Center will hold a televised fund-raiser, the 20th annual Children's Miracle Network Celebration, at 6 p.m. Saturday, broadcast locally on KVVU Channel 5.
The international fund-raiser benefits 5 million children throughout North America. All local proceeds stay in Las Vegas and are used by the UMC Foundation to purchase pediatric health care equipment.
The national broadcast will he hosted by entertainers Marie Osmond, John Schneider, Mary Hart and Mary Lou Retton. For more information, call 383-2326.
Benefit run will honor police officer
A 5k run and mile walk will be held next month in memory of a Metro Police officer who died earlier this year.
BodyScan Imaging Center is hosting the June 15 run in memory of Officer Gary Zicker, an avid runner who completed dozens of marathons and ultramarathons, who died Feb. 5 of a heart attack.
The proceeds from the run will go to the Injured Police Officer's Fund. For more information on entry forms for the run call Lt. Wayne Petersen at 229-3315, the race director Kisane Shimkus at 480-7946 or the IPOF at 461-4860.
The city of Henderson will open Equestrian Park,
1200 Equestrian Drive at Magic Way, and celebrate National Trails Day at 8 a.m. Saturday, followed by breakfast and activities. Residents are encouraged to horseback ride, bike, hike, run or walk the park's trails. Children's activities will include games and bike decorating. Call 565-4264.
