Columnist Cristyn Enea: Waffles and win cap trip
Thursday, May 30, 2002 | 9:09 a.m.
Editor's note: The UNLV women's soccer team is on an 11-day, 10-night European tour that includes games against teams from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands . Cristyn Enea, a senior midfielder and communications major who earned second team all-Mountain West Conference honors last year, has agreed to provide the Sun with updates.
ZEIST, The Netherlands -- Belgian waffles, chocolate and a victory. It doesn't get any better than that.
Today we played our final game of the trip and defeated a team from the Dutch First Division League called the RKVCL Soccer Club, 7-0.
Tania Lee, Anita Pedford, Janae Sims, Rachael Buscovich, Erin Egertson and Melicia Wright all scored goals for us. And Desiree Kelly picked up the shutout in goal. It was definitely a good way to end the trip on the field. We finished with a 1-1-2 record in our four games here.
We started the day by going to Brussels, Belgium where we got to go shopping. We had breakfast there and I had my first Belgian waffle. It was great! I got to taste several different kinds, including a chocolate one which was also very good.
Speaking of chocolate, today was the day we got to hit the different chocolate stores in Brussels. Everybody was walking out of the stores with a lot of boxes to take home. Then we went to a World War II memorial in Maastricht.
Today we got to sleep in for the first time since we've been here. Normally we are up by 7 a.m. to go someplace but today we didn't have to get up until noon. We will do some more touring and shopping this afternoon before having a farewell team dinner tonight. We fly home Friday.
