Letter: Bush foreign policy needs to be questioned

In a May 23 letter to the editor, Victor Kane shamelessly attempted to smear the Democrats. He derisively referred to them as the "devilcrats," and further stated "they will be revealed as traitors to the USA."
Mr. Kane was clearly in high dudgeon. And why? Apparently, Mr. Kane was outraged because these "devilcrats" had the audacity to question President Bush's poor judgment and feckless foreign policy.
Personally, I'd be interested to know which "devilcrats" Mr. Kane was referring to. Was it Sen. Daniel Inouye, who lost an arm in World Waw II combat? Or was it Sen. Max Cleland, who lost his legs and an arm while serving in Vietnam? How about Sen. John Kerry, who commanded a gunboat in Vietnam -- arguably the most dangerous assignment anyone could receive during the Vietnam War? Or could it be Mr. Kane was referring to (Congressional) Medal of Honor recipient Bob Kerrey, the former U.S. senator?
It would be easy for any of these superpatriots to deride the fact that, in their youth, both President Bush and Vice President Cheney studiously avoided active military duty. All, however, are far too gracious ... too big ... to resort to the same Machiavellian tactics Bush and his cronies so casually employ.
A lot of things come to mind when I think of President Bush, but integrity is definitely not one of them.
