Bail set in Strip forgery case

Wednesday, May 29, 2002 | 9:44 a.m.

Bail of $550,000 was set this morning on forgery charges for a woman who has accused singer Celine Dion's husband of sexual assault.

Justice of the Peace Pro Tem Melanie Tobiasson said the bail represents the amount of money the woman is accused of stealing from two local casinos. The judge also set a June 10 preliminary hearing date for the woman.

Yun Kyeong Sung Kwon of California, who moved to the United States from Korea nine years ago, faces nine felony counts of writing bad markers to Harrah's and the Flamingo in 1999 and 2001.

Each charge carries a possible sentence of one to four years in state prison.

The woman and her husband filed a civil complaint March 15 against Rene Angelil, his corporation and the Imperial Palace, where she alleges Angelil, Dion's husband and manager, assaulted her.

Harry Gensler, the woman's attorney, said the woman denies any wrongdoing and will likely be unable to post bail.
