Operator loses trademark suit

Friday, May 24, 2002 | 11:15 a.m.

A federal judge ordered an Internet site operator to stop using several trademarks of Park Place Entertainment Corp. and MGM MIRAGE to promote its online casino and sports book websites.

Park Place Entertainment Corp. and MGM MIRAGE sued in U.S. District Court to force BGS Information Services Inc. and its owner Brian Gabrielle to return the domain names "mgmcasino.ws," "lvhilton.ws," "balis.ws," "wagerworks.ws," "caesarsportsbook.com" and "forumsportsbook.com."

Judge Philip Pro, in a ruling last week, ordered BGS and Gabrielle to return the domain names to the plaintiffs. "Issuance of the preliminary injunction would be in the public interest because it would protect consumers against deception and confusion arising from registration of the domain names," Pro wrote.
