Cancellations prompt lawsuits

Friday, May 24, 2002 | 11:09 a.m.

Park Place Entertainment Corp.'s Flamingo Las Vegas filed two lawsuits in Clark County District Court to recover damages from two companies that cancelled conferences scheduled in October and November at the hotel-casino.

The hotel-casino accused Penton Media Inc. of Darien, Conn., of failing to use 571 rooms for an Oct. 5-13 conference. Flamingo also sued San Francisco-based Open Text Inc. over its alleged failure to use 292 rooms for a Nov. 3-6 conference.

And the Venetian resort on the Strip sued to recover $20,100 in damages from Mountain Marketing Group LLC after it cancelled a conference that was scheduled Oct. 2-6, 2001.

Mountain Marketing was accused in a Clark County District Court suit of defaulting on cancellation fees after it canceled reservations on Sept. 14 for a block of hotel suites and meeting space.

The defendants could not be reached for comment on the allegations.
