Letter: Putting lies into context
Thursday, May 23, 2002 | 8:56 a.m.
Letter writer Jeff Thomas is angry that President Clinton lied. What did he lie about? Sex. Who was FDR with when he died? Who did Eisenhower spend all of World War II with in England? Kennedy? Enough said!
All highly driven and motivated men have active libidos and often seek sexual gratification outside of marriage. It is nothing new, it goes back to the Bible, and even before that. Solomon? David? Come on, get real! The only really moral man to be president in the last 100 years was Jimmy Carter, and look how he was, and still is, treated.
Examine President Clinton's real record. He led the greatest peace-time economy ever in this nation's history, and not by accident. After all, he had all of the foul-ups of the Reagan and Bush years to fix. If we had elected Al Gore in the last election the budget would be balanced in a few more years instead of going the other way again. A side note is that Hillary Clinton tried to reform health care 10 years ago and nobody would listen to her. How is your HMO treating you these days?
Everyone is allowed their opinions, but Thomas should try to include a few facts now and then. Brian Greenspun does not have blind admiration for President Clinton. Thomas has blind hatred for him based on one tiny part of his personality, which is one that most of the people he admires probably share. History has shown that those who do not learn from it are doomed to repeat it.
