Letter: Be wary of replacement bus drivers
Thursday, May 23, 2002 | 8:56 a.m.
In these early days of the CAT strike, stable, law-abiding drivers are being replaced with God knows who. They could as well be the dregs of society.
Before you step on board, ask yourself: Does the scab driver abuse drugs or alcohol? Is the scab a credit to his/her society? And what about people skills? Or does he/she even know how to handle a large vehicle?
Would you trust these replacements with the welfare of up to 100 or more passengers who need to get to work or about their necessary business? (Not everybody can afford to operate a private vehicle).
I can't understand why the ATC balks at giving our good drivers competitive wages and benefits. Are we the ugly stepchild of major cities? What's a family man to do?
I have a friend who gave up a telemarketing job that paid $15 an hour plus generous benefits. And we don't even like that worthless lot.
