The second National Fishing and Boating Week will take place June 1-9 across the country. Events will provide hands-on opportunities for families and friends to share fun and quality time while learning about two of our nation's favorite pastimes -- recreational boating and fishing.
"Today's families are busier than ever," said Bruce Matthews, president and CEO of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF). "We hope people will turn away from their computers, turn off their television and rediscover each other through boating and fishing. It's hard not to relax when you are on the water."
In Southern Nevada, Free Fishing Day is slated for Saturday, June 8. There are several events coinciding with Free Fishing Day, including a fishing derby at Sunset Park.
For more information, contact Clark County Parks and Recreation at 455-8271.
National Fishing and Boating Week is a key component of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation's national awareness campaign, Water Works Wonders. The initiative was recently nominated for a 2002 Fatherhood Award by the National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI), the premier fatherhood renewal organization in the country.
The Fatherhood Awards are presented annually to men, women and organizations who make a substantial contribution to strengthening involved, committed and responsible fatherhood.
There will be many door prizes, auctions and raffles during the banquet. Also featured will by a special auction for a Heritage Trust Mule Deer Tag.
If you've always wanted to fish for huge largemouths in Mexico, there are still a few openings in the June 1 schedule. Write to Steve Babbidge at Sbabbidge@aol.com or call (800) 583-8133.
