CARSON CITY -- An Independent American candidate has become the first to withdraw from the election ballot. He found out he lives in the wrong Assembly District.
Kenneth Greenwell of Fallon filed for the Assembly in District 35, but he pulled out of the race Wednesday because he lives in District 36.
Greenwell owns two homes in Churchill County, one in the county and the other in Fallon. Both were in District 35 until the 2001 reapportionment, which put the home in the county into District 36.
Greenwell said he listed the county address as his home when he submitted his declaration of candidacy. It was only after filing his candidacy that he learned his county home was in another district. His home in the city is in District 35.
The withdrawal leaves Assemblywoman Marcia de Braga, D-Fallon, and Republican Pete Goicoechea of Eureka as the only remaining candidates.
The district is composed of Eureka, Pershing and White Pine counties and parts of Churchill, Humboldt, Lander and Washoe counties.
The secretary of state's office, said candidates have until May 30 at 5 p.m. to pull out of the election.
