Letter: Nevada always stuck with nukes
Wednesday, May 22, 2002 | 9 a.m.
Once again, Nevada receives a blow to the nose by the federal government. It appears that Washington, D.C., will not be happy until the entire state of Nevada is made radioactive by others' nuclear waste.
I suspect many health problems will appear in Nevada residents in future years. Have we forgotten the many health problems caused by the nuclear testing years ago? The wind carried fallout that far exceeded Nevada's borders. Also, Nevada can look forward to a major drop in its tourist trade if this dumping is allowed.
Wouldn't it be better to utilize a dump more centrally located in the United States than to chance hauling this stuff almost across the United States from the East Coast?
No doubt, the future will bring a major disaster somewhere along the way. Perhaps a much better location for the dump would be on some land near Crawford, Texas.
