Planning Commission to consider garages

The North Las Vegas Planning Commission is expected to consider a proposal on Wednesday that would allow homeowners to convert garages into living quarters without meeting off-street parking requirements.
The planning board will conduct a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday at North Las Vegas City Hall on the proposal.
Councilman William Robinson said he had heard from about a dozen residents in older neighborhoods inquiring about a possible change in the ordinance.
"I have asked the city staff to look into it," Robinson said.
If a change is proposed after the hearing, the city would require a special use permit for converting garages into livable space, Robinson said.
"We'll see how much interest there is from the public at the hearing," Robinson said.
Current city law requires garages for homeowners' vehicles to reduce the number parked on the street.
