Letter: Landers ignores the naked truth
Tuesday, May 21, 2002 | 8:51 a.m.
Last Thursday's column by Ann Landers included a question from a mother who wanted some advice on making a decision about whether or not to let her 15-year-old daughter attend a nude slumber party. Only teenage girls, and the mother of the girl having the party were going to be there. Landers advice was "as long as the mother is there, I see no harm in it."
What? Has Ann Landers been in outer space the last 20 years? Doesn't she know that when a group of naked teenagers gets together they usually find something to do other than play checkers? Even if the children maintain decorum and refrain from all physical urges they may have, what is the parent chaperone going to be doing? Hmmm, making sketches, videotaping, just visiting the room to check on the girls? In this case, Ann Landers should have kept her advice.
Be wary parents. When respected people like Ann Landers make terrible value judgments like this, so can your neighbors.
