Detroit- LV flights announced

A Florida-based airline will introduce daily service between Las Vegas and Detroit in June.

Spirit Airlines, Fort Lauderdale, will use its fleet of twin-engine MD-80, MD-87 and DC-9 jets with capacities ranging from 127 to 164 passengers on the route. Service begins with an 11 p.m. arrival June 27 and a 12:20 a.m. departure June 28.

Spirit serves 15 destinations with 98 daily flights with the bulk of its routes linking Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and Detroit with several Florida cities. Spirit also serves New York's LaGuardia Airport, Denver, Los Angeles and Oakland, Calif., as well as Atlantic City; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Spirit will compete on the Las Vegas-Detroit route with Northwest Airlines, which has six daily nonstop round trips a day, and America West Airlines, which has one nonstop round trip a day.
