UNLV baseball team whips SDSU

Sophomore starter Robbie Van threw seven shutout innings en route to a 12-1 victory over San Diego State on Thursday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Van, now 7-5 on the season, gave up only three hits and struck out four.
The win improved the Rebels to 28-26, 13-15 in Mountain West Conference play. The Aztecs fell to 38-21 and 18-10.
UNLV scored 12 runs on 17 hits, led by freshman Joe Wickman. Wickman went 4-for-5 with three singles and a homer, improving his team-leading average to .440 on the season. He drove in three runs and scored once.
Seniors Jason Reuss and Tony Schuler contributed three hits each. Reuss went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Schuler was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored.
David Trujillo finished the game 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Ryan Ruiz, Brent Johnson and Garett Shitanishi added a single hit each.
The teams continue the three-game series tonight at 6:30.
