It's life-jacket time this summer
The Nevada Division of Wildlife is sponsoring the event "It Pays To Wear Your Life Jacket," May 24 through Sept. 2, to reinforce boater awareness on the importance of wearing a life jacket while enjoying Nevada's waters.
NDOW officers are rewarding boaters for their voluntary compliance in wearing their life jackets during the summer-long promotion. For more information, call 451-2992.
Red Rock walks offer diversity
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge, but reservations are required. To make reservations or for more information, call 363-1922. Some upcoming programs:
Learn about "Scrub Oak Life," Monday on the three-mile moderate hike to La Madre Spring.
Join Janis Wednesday on the "Moenkopi Mornings," a 1 1/2 mile easy hike and learn about the native plants and their many uses.
"International Biodiversity Day," a day designated by the United Nations. Join Tricia on the 2 1/2 mile moderate hike Wednesday and discover waterfalls and pools in the desert.
Reception planned at George Building
The Board of Trustees of Pulidor Foundation, Spirit of the Nations, Nevada Youth Alliance, Las Vegas Las Americas Lions Club and A Labour of Love Productions presents a VIP reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the George Federal Building 333 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

B.C. McCabe Boys and Girls Club

The Silver State Market Place
will be open from 5 a.m. until noon for the summer months of June, July and August. Admission is $1 for shoppers; children ages 12 and under are free. Cost for vendors is $15 a day. For more information, call 386-7927.
Returned Peace Corps volunteer
Mona Nyandoro will share her experience as a volunteer in Sao Tome e Principe, West Africa, and show a video of other volunteers at work around the world at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Call 507-3400.
