Golf course seeks new location
A proposal to ask Congress to allow Craig Ranch Golf Course to exchange 132 acres within the city of North Las Vegas for 640 acres of federal lands in the northwest part of the city was held for 30 days at the request of the owner.
The North Las Vegas Council voted unanimously for the delay Wednesday night.
Mark Brown, representing the golf course, said the delay would allow Craig Ranch owners to talk to North Valley Enterprises, including developers Del Webb and American Nevada Corp., before pushing ahead to create a regional park in the middle of a city.
It was a "significant oversight" that the golf course owners had not talked to the developers earlier, Brown said.
Grant sought for water protection
The City Council applied for a $115,000 Environmental Protection Agency security grant to check the vulnerability of its water system after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
A vulnerability assessment is the highest priority under the grant program. After that, North Las Vegas water officials are expected to develop an emergency operations plan and design security enhancements.
The council also approved spending $132,000 to purchase a closed circuit television sewer inspection truck. The council waived the bidding competition because the truck company, CUES, was a sole source.
