RTC to consider hike in sales tax for projects
Wednesday, May 15, 2002 | 9:54 a.m.
The Regional Transportation Commission board will consider recommending a sales tax increase as part of a $2.7 billion funding package for transportation and air quality programs Thursday.
The proposal would bring Clark County's sales tax to 7.5 percent, up from 7.25 percent. The proposal would scrap a previously contemplated raise in the gasoline fuel tax and changes in the cost and frequency of mandatory smog tests on cars.
The RTC hopes to bring its proposal to voters in November for a referendum on the tax package, although the ultimate decision on taxes would go to the Legislature next year.
The RTC meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Clark County Commission Chambers, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas.
