Benefit motorcycle run set Sunday
The second annual Charity Motorcycle Run to benefit the Foundation for Positively Kids will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m., followed by the race at 11 a.m. Sunday at Vegas Thunder Cycle, 2245 N. Decatur Blvd., Suite J.
Registration fees are $15 for drivers and $5 for riders, with all fees donated to Positively Kids. Registration includes the ride, a free poker hand, a raffle ticket, a casino fun book and admission to the post-run party at Speedway casino, 3227 Civic Center Drive. Non-run participants are welcome to attend the party for a $10 donation.
Positively Kids is a nonprofit foundation that seeks care for medically dependent and terminally ill children in Southern Nevada by offering a 24-bed facility providing long-term respite, day care and hospice services to children from birth to age 18. For more information, call 262-0037.
Motorcycle run will go through Arizona
The MS300 Inaugural Motorcycle Rally, to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis and to provide hope and services to people living with MS, will begin with registration 8-10 a.m. Saturday at The Venetian.
The event will take riders through Boulder City, Kingman and then on Route 66 through Ash Fork and Chino Valley, finishing in Prescott, Ariz.
Registration is $25, which goes toward the minimum amount of $125 that each rider must turn in to receive a ticket for the post-ride barbecue and to receive the special inaugural T-shirt and pin.
In addition to participants, the Desert Southwest Chapter is seeking volunteers to help run registration, host rest stops, drive support vehicles and perform other tasks to make the event go smoothly and safely. Volunteers are also eligible to earn prizes by raising donations. For more information, call 736-7272 or register at (800) Fight MS.
Sunrise and MountainView Hospitals
are offering free skin cancer screenings 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at both the Diagnostic Center, 3006 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 100, and at MountainView's Sunrise Regional Sleep Center, 3150 N. Tenaya Way, Suite 115.
The Arthritis Foundation
will hold its Walk This Way 5K fund-raiser walk at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to raise funds to support research and quality-of-life programs that help fight arthritis. To register, call (800) 954-2873.
The second annual Pool Safety Fair
will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Palo Verde pool, 101 S. Pavilion Drive, designating May 2002 American Red Cross Pool Safety Month for Red Cross volunteers and staff, and providing information to families about pool safety and the importance of learning how to swim. Music Awards 2000
winner for "Best Native American Flutist of the Year," Mary Youngblood, will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park to benefit Red Rock Canyon Environmental Education programs. Tickets are $20 and are available at the Red Rock Canyon Gift Store or charge by phone by calling 363-7592.
"Stuffed with Hugs,"
an event at 10 a.m. Saturday at Desert Passage at the Aladdin invites children of all ages to make a bear for free to be donated to local firefighters and law enforcement agencies. Call 836-0899.
Josefina' Fiesta, a girls event,
will be held 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday in Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center's auditorium, to benefit the Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada. Call 648-1990.
