Columnist Peter Benton: Montgomery wins Pro-Am

Perfect weather course conditions greeted 185 players from across the country last week who competed in the 17th annual Jerry Holley's All World Sports Spring Pro-Am.
Shadow Creek professional Monte Montgomery, with rounds of 66-67--133 over the par-72 Desert Inn layout, won the popular outing by four strokes over Bob Sewards of Columbus, Ohio.
Other Las Vegans who competed included John Kelley, who tied for fifth after rounds of 70-71--141; Jay Davis of Southern Highlands, who, after a rocky start tied for eighth with 75-69--144; host Holley, 12th at 73-73--146 and Cascata's Brian Hawthorne, who shared 25th spot with rounds of 77-77--154.
Additionally, Montgomery and his Las Vegan amateur team of Ron Ellwood, Jesse Fonteboa, Miles Catania and Fred "Cowboy" Coughlin won the PGA flight in the team segment of play.
This two-day event played under gorgeous conditions was six holes best ball, six holes alternate shot and six holes two low net.
Second at 166.6 was the Song Rhee/June Oh pairing and third with 170.4 was Suki Park and Sue Ahn.
Linda Bell and Karen Killpack were victorious in the net segment of play at 216, with second place going to Barb Manney and Baylynn Boc. They edged the Pauline May/Kathy Avant team via a scorecard playoff after both came in with 222s.
