Filing briefs

Tuesday, May 14, 2002 | 9:13 a.m.

Lovelock attorney Todd A. Plimpton's candidacy for District Court judge was filed Monday, but he won't be around for the campaign or the election.

Plimpton, a major in the Nevada National Guard, was called to duty in April and will be dispatched in July to Egypt. He won't be home until January.

He is seeking the post held by District Judge Jerry Sullivan in Judicial District 6 that is composed of Pershing, Lander and Humboldt counties.

Candidate has unique slogan

Bill Hiett has a campaign slogan few people can disagree with.

"I want to make residents of Nevada filthy rich, wealthy, happy and comfortable," said Hiett, who filed for the GOP nomination for governor Monday.

Hiett, 61, described himself as a "Southern aristocrat" who lives in Ely and has survived off his inheritance. This is his first run for public office. He said he didn't have a telephone but planned to move to Reno and live in a casino there.
