Nellis jets to take off early for war games

Monday, May 13, 2002 | 9:27 a.m.

Southern Nevada residents may notice an increase in early morning jet noise through May 20, Nellis Air Force Base officials said.

Early morning flights between 3 and 6 a.m. began on Sunday.

Flights during these times will involve up to three F-16 Fighting Falcons and four B-1 Lancers participating in Air Warrior I, a close air support exercise. The aircraft will take off and head northwest around Mount Charleston and then west to the Army National Training Center at Fort Irwin, near Barstow, Calif.

Aircraft will return to Nellis two to three hours after takeoff.

Air Warrior I exercises are held about 10 times a year. The exercises are designed to better reflect actual wartime training scenarios.
