Official takes national post

Henderson Community Development Director Mary Kay Peck has been elected to serve a two-year term as president of the American Planning Association, representing 30,000 planners, elected officials and other group members from around the country.

Peck will serve the group for four years, including a year each as president-elect and immediate past president.

Peck was hired as a Henderson zoning administrator in 1995. In 1996 she was promoted to her current position. She helped create the city's hillside ordinance, which limits development in the city's southern hillsides.

Peck earned a master's degree in urban planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an undergraduate degree in urban planning from University of Evansville, Ind. She has been accredited by the American Institute of Certified Planners.
