Las Vegas Dynasty recruiting players

The Las Vegas Dynasty girls softball group is recruiting players under 16 years old for a traveling team scheduled to compete in state, junior Olympic and travel tournaments.

Last year the team had a 28-12-2 record. Practices will be three times weekly and competitive.

An open clinic and workout will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at West Flamingo Park, at Flamingo Road and Jones Boulevard.

Preservation Week tours, fairs planned

Archaeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Week is scheduled through May 18, for Nevadans to re-discover their past in lectures, walking tours of historic districts and visits to archaeological sites and fairs.

The event is also an opportunity for communities and organizations to celebrate Nevada's past while providing activities for the family, such as taking pictures, examining artifacts, and learning more about Nevada's prehistory and history.

Upcoming tours:

Saturday: 9 a.m., John S. Park Elementary School, 931 Franklin Ave., a guided walking tour of the neighborhood. Call Frank Fiori at 229-2087; 1-5 p.m., Goodsprings Historical Society will lead a tour of the small historic mining community. Meet at the Goodsprings Elementary School, 385 San Pedro in Goodsprings.

Sunday: 8:30-4:30 p.m., Lost City Museum in Overton will be open free of charge for one day. Staff will offer behind the scenes tours of the lab and museum.

May 17 and 18: 6 p.m., Neon Museum Boneyard, located at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and McWilliams Avenue near Cashman Center, a tour will be offered. The following day, visit sites along the newly designated Las Vegas Pioneer Trail. For more information on the Pioneer Trail, call Samuel Wright at 676-1721.

10th annual event at Doolittle Park

Las Vegas Councilman Lawrence Weekly and the city's Leisure Services Department will host the 10th annual Unity Festival beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday at Doolittle Park.

The Unity Festival is the oldest annual West Las Vegas community program offered by the city. The program was designed to bring the community together after the Rodney King riot in 1992.

The Leisure Services Department on Sunday will also host a Mother's Day concert at 2 p.m. at Reed Whipple Cultural Center.

These locations are hosting blood drives for United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd.:

Monday: 7:30-12:30 p.m., Western High School, 4601 W. Bonanza Road.

Tuesday: 8 a.m.-1 p.m., National Airlines, 6020 Spencer St.; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Lowe's of Henderson, 440 Marks St., Henderson; 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Eldorado Hotel, 140 Water St.

Wednesday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Barbary Coast, 3595 Las Vegas Blvd. South; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., County Government Center, 500 Grand Central Parkway; 2-7 p.m., Grace Community Church, 1150 Wyoming St., Boulder City.

Thursday and Friday: 7-2 p.m., Centennial High School, 10200 Centennial Parkway.

Saturday: 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Spring Meadows Presbyterian Church, 1600 E. Oakey Blvd.; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road; 1-7 p.m., Steve Lund Eagle Scout, 11775 N. Christy Lane.
