Man stabbed during argument

A man stabbed last month during an argument over rent died over the weekend from his injuries.

Police allege that Thurman Taylor, 47, was stabbed by Noel Cobette, 56, on April 30 during an argument in a home in the 900 block of West Bonanza Road near Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Taylor died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, hospital officials said. Cobette was charged with murder Monday.

Homeowners lose appeal of permit

The Clark County Commission on Wednesday rejected the appeal of a use permit needed to build Steve Wynn's La Reve resort on the site of the Desert Inn.

The county Planning Commission had approved the use permits allowing the proposed hotel to rise 14 feet over previous plans and add 156 rooms for a total of 2,611.

But a handful of homeowners on the property, who have continually sparred with Wynn over the project, appealed, arguing that Wynn's company had illegally given the county an access lane partially owned by the homeowners.

But county attorney Rob Warhola said the issue of the road ownership did not apply to the use permits. The commission upheld the use permits 6-0.

Commission OKs protested project

The Clark County Commission approved zoning for a convenience store at the corner of Eastern and and Serene avenues over the objections of nearby residents.

Neighbors of the project, including about a dozen who attended Wednesday's zoning hearing, said they feared traffic problems and that there would not be enough parking at the site.

Garry Hayes, an attorney representing the neighbors, said the application for a 4,200-square foot convenience store also broke a written agreement that developer Beltway Marketplace had made last year.
