Letter: Metals won’t last forever at Yucca
Thursday, May 9, 2002 | 8:45 a.m.
"A whole new phenomenon," is how John Grobe, head of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's task force investigating the hole in the 6-inch steel reactor cover at the Davis-Besse nuclear power plant in Ohio, described it to the Associated Press on May 7.
Yes, whole new phenomena is what I worry about at Yucca Mountain. Mankind has never done anything like this in the history of the world. Metals hardly last the lifetime of a nuclear power plant, yet claims are made they'll last to eternity in the mountain.
Yup, whole new phenomena.
