North Las Vegas names new finance director

Wednesday, May 8, 2002 | 10:05 a.m.

Phil Stoeckinger, who has held key finance positions in the Clark County School District, city of Henderson and Las Vegas Housing Authority, has been hired as the city of North Las Vegas' finance director.

Stoeckinger replaces Vytas Vaitkus, who retired in February after 19 years as the city's finance director.

"In the financial field, (Stoeckinger) is knowledgeable, professional and well-respected among his peers," North Las Vegas City Manager Kurt Fritsch said. "He will definitely be an asset to our management team."

Stoeckinger will begin the job on June 10 at an annual salary of $100,000. He will report to Assistant City Manager Dan Tarwater. The City Council is scheduled to vote on the job and salary May 15.

"I am excited to come to work for North Las Vegas," Stoeckinger said. "The city management team is progressive and talented."

Stoeckinger has more than 11 years of experience in finance management, most recently as a special projects accountant for the city of Henderson.

His previous experience includes serving as a financial analyst for the Clark County School District, assistant controller for the Las Vegas Housing Authority and assistant controller of the Sahara hotel.

Stoeckinger has a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Nebraska and is pursuing a master's in public administration at UNLV.
