Wednesday, May 8, 2002 | 11:02 a.m.

WASHINGTON -- Americans gambled more in 2001 despite the recession and the terrorism-caused economic slowdown, the American Gaming Association reported today.

The trade group said gross annual revenue for the commercial casino industry climbed to $25.7 billion in 2001, up from $24.3 billion in 2000.

There were 433 such non-Indian casinos in 11 states across the country last year, the AGA said.
