McDonald House Charities gives $71,000 in scholarships

Forty local high school seniors have been given a total $71,000 in scholarships from the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Eighteen students received various amounts from the Future Achievers Scholarship Program. Fifteen Hispanic students each received $2,000 scholarships from the Hispanic Commitment to Education Resources. Ten students each received $1,000 in the exceptional students category.
This is the third year of the awards, which were presented Friday at Palace Station.
The list of winners:
Future Achievers (top awards): Christina Trotter, Clark High ($5,000); Karl Riley, Las Vegas Academy ($3,000); Ashlee Caligone, Las Vegas Academy ($2,500); and Modeira Hatcher, Bonanza ($2,500).
Future Achievers ($1,500): Jennifer Johnson, Green Valley; Justina Amie, Bonanza; Kristal Johnson, Clark; Myeisha Slocum, Eldorado; Rakeisha Smitherman, Vo-Tech; and Derrick Baylor, Kandace Weaver and Jennifer White, all of Cheyenne.
Future Achievers ($1,000): Tony Hickman II, Valley; Kyicia Wright, Las Vegas Academy; Joshua Swackhamer, Vo-Tech; Ararat Mahderekal, Silverado; Jennifer Curry, Green Valley; and DeMisha Banks, Community College High School.
Hispanic Resources: Fernando Colon, Ericka Corona, Olivia Espinoza and Melissa Rodriguez, all of Vo-Tech; Orfelina Gonzalez and Dina Melgar, both of Eldorado; Janett Contreras and Amelia Larios, both of Palo Verde; Claudia Gamboa, Las Vegas Academy; Marlyn Granados, Chaparral; Debra Mendoza, Las Vegas High; Christina Molinar, Mojave; Yesenia Nunez, Cimarron-Memorial; Chantal Reyna, Boulder City High; and Paula Ureta, Bishop Gorman.
Exceptional students: Daniel Peterson, Virgin Valley High; Audrei Moffitt, Valley; Kai Kadoich, Bonanza; Stephanie Shreck, Chaparral; Emmanuel Caudillo, Silverado; Jamie Cottle, Mojave; Karl Riley and Courtney Rowland, both of Las Vegas Academy; and Laura Jordan and Rachel Perlin, both of Green Valley.
