LV operations to consolidate

WILMINGTON, Del. -- Bankrupt ANC Rental Corp. won court approval to combine its Alamo and National car-rental chains at four airports, including McCarran in Las Vegas, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The decision by bankruptcy-court Judge Mary Walrath allows ANC to merge its chains in four cities and is expected to save the company about $4.5 million a year, the paper said. The judge also prohibited ANC's largest competitors from contesting future consolidations, it said.
Rental-car rivals Hertz Corp. and Avis Group Holdings Inc. tried to stop ANC's move to consolidate operations at airports, arguing the action would give ANC a competitive edge because ANC could reduce costs by going against concession agreements and by doubling up two brands at one counter.
