A great city for development
North Las Vegas is one of the best cities in Southern Nevada in which to develop, according to a survey of top Nevada developers in a recent issue of Nevada Business Journal.
The survey asked the developers to rate Nevada government agencies in two areas: cooperation and speed of handling requests.
For cooperation North Las Vegas scored a 1.6 on a scale of 1 to 3, with 1 being easiest to work with. Las Vegas and Henderson each received 2.3 scores. As for speed North Las Vegas recorded a 1.9 on the same scale. Henderson scored 2.1. Las Vegas scored 2.3.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, North Las Vegas is one of the nation's fastest growing large cities. The city's population is estimated at 135,000. In the past 10 years, North Las Vegas has grown by 147 percent, about 1,000 new residents per month.
The Mexican Patriotic and Civic Committee
has announced Gov. Kenny Guinn, Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., and Las Vegas Councilman Lawrence Weekly as recipients of the "Amigo Award 2002" to be presented 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Neonopolis. The three were chosen based on civic, personal and corporate participation with the Hispanic community. The event is free and open to the public. Call 649-1198.
