Screenings are set
The "Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Film Festival" kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with a screening of 1953's "Tokyo Story" at West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. Call 507-3980.
"Spike & Mike's Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation" continues today, with screenings of films at 11:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, May 10-11, 17-18, 24-25 and May 31 through June 1 at Paradise 6 Theater, 3330 E. Tropicana Ave. Tickets are $7 (ages 18 and older) and are available at the door.
Japanese anime films will be screened from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, for children ages 6 and older, at Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. Call 507-3905.
Authors appear
Local author Cherie Carter-Scott, who penned "The Gift of Motherhood," will discuss and sign copies of the book at 3 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble, 567 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson. Call 434-1607.
Armand L. Archambeault, author of "It," will discuss and sign copies of the book from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at B. Dalton Book Store at Boulevard mall.

Authors discuss

'Forty-Niners'

Arts celebration
"Celebration of the Arts," featuring more than 100 artisans selling their wares, specialty foods, a children's art area and artist demonstrations, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Gardens Park, 10401 Garden Park Drive in Summerlin. Call 255-6645.
Food and fun
The International Food and Folklife Festival of Southern Nevada, featuring live entertainment, cultural arts and crafts and ethnic food, will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the County Government Center Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. Admission is free. Call 455-8200.
A Cinco de Mayo festival, sponsored by the city of Las Vegas and the Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation, will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lorenzi Park.
