Las Vegas city staff will begin negotiating with the Nevada Tennis Association to manage and operate the planned Darling Tennis Center in the Summerlin area.
The tennis complex, proposed for Washington Avenue and Buffalo Drive, would be capable of hosting U.S. Tennis Association regional and national tournaments on both the amateur and professional levels.
The association approached the city with a proposal to form a partnership in construction, management and operation of the large-scale tennis facility.
According to the proposal, an endowment will be made to the association from the local Darling Memorial Foundation to offset the facility's construction costs.
The foundation has committed to a $750,000 donation toward construction and to an additional $250,000 for operation over the first five years, according to the association's proposal.
The complex would include 23 lighted hard courts, including a sunken stadium court seating 500, and a 6,500-square-foot building.
