Two men arrested in double killing

Metro Police said that they have arrested two suspects in the deaths of two men found at Hammer and Auto streets near Craig Road and Lamb Boulevard.

Eduvijes Pena, 19, and Manuel Horta, 20, were booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Saturday. They were arrested without incident at 1428 Henry St., police said.

The two men are charged with two counts of murder, two counts of kidnapping, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Two motorists discovered two bodies bound with restraints about 6 a.m. on April 22, officers said.

Police believe that the two men, Cleofas Martinez and Julio Cano, both of Las Vegas, were killed as the result of a drug deal.

LV man receives 46-month sentence

A 44-year-old Las Vegas man was sentenced to 46 months in prison Wednesday for possession of child pornography.

Timothy Shawn O'Neal was ordered by U.S. District Judge Lloyd George to surrender to authorities on July 1 to begin serving his sentence.

Child pornography was found in O'Neal's home while police were searching for a methamphetamine lab, Assistant U.S. Attorney Nancy Davis said.

O'Neal was also sentenced to three years of supervised release when his prison term is up.

Inmates didn't take their pills

A state hearing officer has upheld a five-day suspension given a licensed nurse for failing to inspect the mouths of prison inmates to make sure they swallowed their prescription psychotropic drugs.

Hearing Officer David Kladney, in a decision released Wednesday, found that Nurse Patricia Moore lacked honesty when she insisted she had examined the mouths of the inmates at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center.

During a routine patrol along the fence line in August 2000, officers found 60 different types of medication in the form of pills. An investigation was launched, and a secret videotape was made of Moore while the pills were being dispensed.

The tape showed Moore did not conduct visual examinations on about half of the inmates.
