Erik Pappa, a veteran newsman and the city of Las Vegas' senior public information officer, was named Clark County's director of public communications Tuesday, according to the county manager's office.
Pappa, who is also Mayor Oscar Goodman's spokesman, was hired by the city in 1999. He previously worked at the Las Vegas Sun, KLAS Channel 8 and Las Vegas ONE.
"He has a background in local government and print media as well as TV," County Manager Thom Reilly said. "The combination of the three made him an ideal candidate."
Pappa will begin May 20 and earn $90,000 a year, Reilly said. Commissioners are scheduled to ratify Pappa's appointment May 7.
"I am looking forward to this position. I know it will be a challenge, but I'm excited about the opportunity to put my skills to the test on behalf of the county," Pappa said in a prepared statement.
Pappa replaces Gwen Castaldi, who was hired in September and resigned in March.
