Columnist Peter Benton: Junior clinics planned for Callaway Center
Wednesday, May 1, 2002 | 8:34 a.m.
Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.
Beginning the week of June 4, entertainer Danny Gans will be sponsoring a free junior golf academy at the Callaway Golf Center for juniors 8-17 years of age.
The one-hour clinics will be held Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday for six weeks. They will be administered by Jane Chanik and the staff at Giant Golf Academy.
There will be five levels of instruction, with the majority of students beginning at the first level then graduating to the second level of instruction for another six weeks and so on.
The focus within each of the five levels will be rules and etiquette, chipping, pitching, full swing and on-course instruction. Upon completion of the program (graduating level five), the junior golfers will be eligible to apply for membership into the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association.
At a future date, students will be introduced to additional life skills as part of their development, including values associated with interpersonal skills, self management, goal setting and resistance skills.
