Columnist Peter Benton: Seminar on golf’s mental techniques set

Wednesday, March 27, 2002 | 10:26 a.m.

Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.

I do not think there is a golfer who, at some stage of his round, has not experienced doubt about a shot they are about to play or possibly lost a little confidence because of lack of focus or concentration.

If that is the case, Dr. Kevin Roby, a local psychologist and avid local golfer with a single-digit handicap, could very well be the man for you.

This noted golf psychology consultant will present a two-hour seminar from 7-9 p.m. on April 12 at UNLV to discuss mental techniques that are utilized by pros such as Fred Couples and Davis Love III.

Although virtually every player serious about his game recognizes the importance of the mental aspects of golf, very few make a genuine effort to learn mental golf improvement techniques.

Whether you have a high handicap, a low handicap or are a golfer working toward a professional career, you will no doubt see a significant improvement in your game once you learn the mental strategies for better golf.

Price of the seminar is $49. To register, please call UNLV at 895-3394 or for additional information, contact Dr. Kevin Roby at 395-2170.

Undoubtedly the $1,080,000 first-prize check will come in handy, but so will the other perks for winning: A five-year exemption on Tour, a four-year exemption to the British Open, three trips to Augusta for the Masters, along with invites to this year's U.S. Open and PGA Championships -- and that's just for starters.

His life will never be the same.
