Battling heavy winds and rain, the UNLV men's golf team shot a first-round 314 and was unable to complete its scheduled second round of play at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate Monday in Austin, Texas.
Meanwhile, the UNLV women's golf team had similar problems as the Rebels had their worst round of the year at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin.
Through one round, the UNLV men sit in 14th place in the 15-team field at 26 strokes over par. BYU leads the event at one-over.
Despite the harsh conditions, freshman Ryan Moore was able to salvage a fair round, carding a three-over 75 at the Austin Country Club. He is seven shots behind SMU's Brock Mulder, who set the pace at four-under.
Senior Clark Corbett followed Moore in the lineup with a 77 while Brandon Askew, J.C. Deacon and Brien Davis fired matching 81s.
Temperatures in the 40s with wind gusts between 20-30 mph took its toll on the UNLV women as they fired a season-worst 340 in the first round. Hwanhee Lee and Tina Mabanta carded the squad's best rounds, 12-over 83s.
Erin Borcherts and Autumn Monteiro scored matching 87s to round out the Rebels' team score. An 89 from freshman Christine Hentzner was discarded.
