Public television launches new Vegas digital channel

Channel 10 owner KLVX Communications Group today launched Channel 11, a new Las Vegas digital channel that will bring the Public Broadcasting System station in compliance ahead of schedule with federal regulations to change all stations to digital by May of 2003.
KLVX said the digital technology will give viewers much higher quality pictures than existing analog stations and more programming choices because it can send multiple pieces of programming at a time over a single channel.
Channel 11 will be Southern Nevada's first all digital non-commercial station available to residents with high definition television sets. KLVX said there currently about 100 high definition capable sets in the Las Vegas area but that analysts predict more than 50 percent of television sets will be HDTV by 2008.
