Soldier shines in chaplain-aide training

Army Pvt. Amber Bonds, Palo Verde High School class of 2001, recently earned the distinction of honor graduate of her class at the Chaplain Assistant Training Center at Fort Jackson, S.C. Bonds is the daughter of Anita and Alfred Bonds of Las Vegas.

Her training emphasized religious support, development and ministry support to soldiers and family members. She also learned skills to help provide services in a battlefield environment and casualty care.

She learned to prepare altars for Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and Orthodox worship services during the course that stresses the importance of being knowledgeable of all faith groups represented in the Army.

Honor Guard to be honored

The annual "Honor the Honor Guard" luncheon at Nellis Air Force Base has been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. April 5 at the Nellis Officers Club. The annual luncheon, sponsored by the Thunderbird Chapter of the Air Force Association, is to show appreciation for the more than 500 individual ceremonies the members of the unit conduct each year.

Last year the group performed 281 funerals for members of the armed forces, military retirees and veterans. They also performed 250 ceremonies for official functions at Nellis and various sporting and community events in the Las Vegas area.

The cost for the luncheon is $9. Representatives of organizations wishing to participate should call Pete Gillespie at 452-9522 to reserve space.
