Letter: Fence at park not a good solution

Thursday, March 21, 2002 | 8:55 a.m.

Now the West Circle Neighborhood Association and Councilman Gary Resse want to change Maryland Parkway's Circle Park; they want to install playground equipment, a walking trail and put up an iron fence.

Have they really thought this out? The heavy traffic and curves on Maryland Parkway make Circle Park a dangerous destination for both seniors and children.

An ugly iron fence will keep everyone out, and send the homeless into the neighborhoods.

City officials could better protect the neighborhoods by brightly lighting the park at night, and by allowing the homeless to sleep in the park at night.

Not only will this change help the homeless by bringing them into the daytime's employable mainstream, but also there would be fewer neighborhood burglaries at night.
