Walker to oversee county projects

Wednesday, March 20, 2002 | 10:51 a.m.

Clark County Manager Thom Reilly assigned Aviation Director Randy Walker to oversee the construction of the Regional Justice Center and detention center expansion -- two high-priced projects wracked by delays.

Walker, who replaces Assistant County Manager Mike Alastuey on the project, is expected to resolve code violations and disputes between subcontractors, two major obstacles in the completion of the facilities.

The 1,300-bed, $85 million jail expansion -- located on Casino Center Drive between Lewis and Clark streets -- was scheduled to open last May. The $170 million Regional Justice Center was expected to open in this year. The new courthouse is now expected to be finished next year.
