Former UNLV standout Robert Smith has been named head basketball coach of the fledgling Community College of Southern Nevada women's program which will begin play this fall.
"Hiring Robert Smith is another monumental advance for CCSN athletics," CCSN athletic director Tim Chambers said in a statement. "There's no one better to lead our new women's basketball program."
Smith was selected from a field of 28 applicants. Following his Rebels career, where he played point guard for Jerry Tarkanian's first Final Four team in 1977, Smith was drafted by the Denver Nuggets.
More recently, he has coached basketball at Bishop Gorman High School and coached professionally with the IBL's Las Vegas Bandits and ABA 2000's Las Vegas Slam.
