Columnist Peter Benton: LV Business Women’s Club team leads league
Wednesday, March 20, 2002 | 8:52 a.m.
Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.
The Las Vegas Business Women's Club team, consisting of Bobbie Wiener, Ann Sutton, Jackie Pierson, Jan Hanson, Lynn King, Geneva Cullen, Connie Patterson and Kathy Siegel, leads the Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association's Blue League standings with 34 points.
Sun City follows with 28.5 while the Stallion Mountain Club is in third place with 21.5. The Las Vegas Country Club is next, followed by Badlands, Canyon Gate and Sunrise Vista.
With its 16-8 victory over Los Prados, the Las Vegas Golf Club moved atop the standings in the Red League with 32 points. Spanish Trail is in second place with 26.5 and the Boulder City team (25) is third.
This new category will provide eligibility for Senior Tour open, full-field events to players who have won two or more PGA Tour tournaments. It will apply for a 12-month period to players who are 50 and 51, ending when they reach their 52nd birthday.
Two career victory spots per tournament will be allocated according to a ranking of players based on PGA Tour wins, with major championships and The Players Championship receiving triple rating.
Thus, Jerry Pate, with eight PGA Tour wins including one U.S. Open and one Players Championship title, is ranked number one with 12 points.
Players expected to gain access via the career victory category in 2003 include Jerry Pate (12 points, 8 wins), Andy Bean, (11,11), Bill Rogers (8,6), Gary Koch (6,6), Roger Maltbie (5,5), Danny Edwards (4,4), Morris Hatalsky (4,4), Ed Fiori (4,4), Billy Kratzert (3,3), Mac O'Grady (2,2), Don Pooley (2,2) and Dave Barr (2,2).
In cases where players share the same points, the player with the higher spot on the all-time money list receives priority.
