Residents seek casino

WARREN, Mass. -- More than 400 Warren residents have signed a petition calling for a gambling casino.
The residents point to a piece of land near the Massachusetts Turnpike, which runs through the town of 4,700 halfway between Springfield and Worcester.
Former selectman Donald G. Nickerson and others collected most of the signatures in a single afternoon.
"Warren has that big parcel by the Turnpike that everyone wants to build on," Nickerson told the Union-News of Springfield. "So we said, 'Let's be up-front with this thing and let the voters decide.' "
