Hotels appeal property tax values

Tuesday, March 19, 2002 | 9:25 a.m.

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU

CARSON CITY -- The state Board of Equalization said today it has received appeals from at least two Las Vegas hotels to reduce their property tax values.

Chuck Chinnock, deputy director of the state Department of Taxation, said appeals have been filed by Fiesta Henderson and the Four Queens. Others could follow, he said.

The state board will meet Monday to set a hearing schedule for the appeals.

The county set the assessed value of the Fiesta Henderson, formerly called The Reserve, at $62.8 million. The hotel wants that reduced to $46 million.

Four Queens argues its assessed value is $36 million, not the $46.7 million set by the Clark County assessor's office.

Both hotels say that such things as established customer base and experienced management should be eliminated from the assessed value.
