Services at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia for World War II hero and former Sen. Howard W. Cannon will be 8 a.m. PDT on April 10, Palm Mortuary and Arlington officials confirmed today. The services will be at Fort Myer Memorial Chapel.
Cannon, who evaded capture in German-occupied Holland for 42 days after the plane he was piloting was shot down, and who later served four terms in the Senate, died March 6 at age 90.
Local services were held Monday at Palm Mortuary-Eastern for Cannon, who was a leading figure in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Panama Canal Treaty. He also was the author of legislation that deregulated airlines and secured water rights for Las Vegas.
