GIRLS FIRST TEAM
ANDREA HONER, PG, Douglas, 5-9, Sr.
Noteworthy: Four-year varsity starter averaged 10.2 points, 9.8 assists, 8 rebounds, 7.2 steals ... helped Tigers to 26-6 record, 4A Northern Region title, appearance in 4A state championship game ... beat overtime buzzer with 3-pointer to extend state final vs. Centennial ... Sierra Division co-MVP ... first team all-Northern Region.
Said Tigers coach Werner Christen: "A lot of our offense is based on reads and she knows what our other players are going to do before they do it. She loves the game and she's like a coach on the floor for us."
DELICIA JERNIGAN, SG, Mineral County, 5-7, Jr.
Noteworthy: Sharpshooter averaged 23.8 points, 9 rebounds, 8.1 assists, 5 steals ... along with Sun second-teamer Sidney Orndorff, led Serpents to 29-0 record, 2A state championship ... named 2A co-MVP (with Orndorff) by coaches... poured in 33 points in state semifinal win over White Pine.
Said Serpents coach Dave Gelmstedt: "When the pressure was on, she took over games. She and Sidney play with great intensity, and they're both multi-dimensional: able to score, rebound and play tough defense."
JOANNA HIXON, SF, Galena, 5-10, Jr.
Noteworthy: Versatile player averaged 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks while alternating between guard and forward positions for young Grizzlies squad ... helped team to 16-11 record, appearance in Northern Region playoffs ... member of all-Northern Region first team.
Said Grizzlies coach Karen Friel: "She had to do pretty much everything for us, with a lot more responsibilities, and she handled it well. She brings a level of intensity to the game, and she's so athletic and tough to stop."
TRISTIN ADAMS, PF, Churchill County, 5-10, Jr.
Noteworthy: Moving from point guard into the post, Adams averaged 14.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.4 steals ... shot 48 percent from the floor ... led Greenwave to 18-4 record, High Desert Division title ... 4A Northern Region MVP ... member of all-Northern and all-High Desert first teams.
Said Greenwave coach Chelle Dalager: "She played point guard for two years and we asked her to move to our post and she was outstanding. She's a hard worker, a great passer and she gives us the 3-point shot, which you don't see often from that position."
JESSICA STEWART, C, Reno, 6-0, Jr.
Noteworthy: Returnee from 2001 state championship team averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks ... led Huskies to 19-8 record, Sierra Division title ... co-Sierra MVP ...first-team all-Sierra Division, all-Northern Region.
Said Huskies coach Craig Campbell: "In my opinion, she's the best back-to-the-basket player in the state. She's unbelievable with her ability to go left or right. Everybody in the north either zones her or front-and-backed her, and she was still in double figures in every game but two."
KAREN WEITZ, Coach, Centennial
Noteworthy: Led Bulldogs to perfect 34-0 season, helping Centennial become first Southern Nevada team to win large-school girls state title since 1979-80 ... captured first-place trophies at Lady Wolves, Lady Bulldogs holiday events ... has coached 3-year-old program to 92-5 overall record.
