Man charged in police car incident
A North Las Vegas man accused of setting off a homemade bomb near a parked Metro Police car in Overton last summer has been indicted.
According to an indictment handed down Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Carl Lee now faces a charge of possession of an unregistered destructive device. The man who prosecutors say gave him the device, Daniel Shane Atkinson, was also indicted.
Lee is accused of filling a small propane canister -- such as those used in camping stoves -- with black powder and lighting a fuse near an unoccupied police car parked at the officer's home on July 9.
The bomb exploded, but the blast did not damage the car, police said.
DEA agent suspect in case
A U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency agent was released from the Clark County jail Wednesday night after being arrested on 36 counts of sexual misconduct, Metro Police said.
Steve Kinney, 42, was booked into the jail Tuesday night on nine counts each of attempted sexual assault, attempted statutory sexual seduction, solicitation of a minor of infamous crimes against nature and annoyance of a minor, police said.
Kinney is accused of writing notes soliciting young teenage boys in sexual activities, wrapping the notes over a small rock and tossing them at the feet of the boys inside department stores, police said.
Comments invited on water sharing
Public comments on a draft environmental impact statement for sharing Colorado River water among Arizona, California and Nevada have been extended until March 26.
The Bureau of Reclamation issued the analysis on Jan. 11. It establishes a framework for conserving and transferring water within Southern California for up to 75 years.
Written comments should be sent to Bruce Ellis, Environmental Resources Management Division chief, Bureau of Reclamation, Phoenix Area Office (PXAO-1500), P.O. Box 81169, Phoenix, AZ, 85069-1169, or faxed to (602) 216-4006.
The courtesy dock at Willow Beach
below Hoover Dam has been closed to the public until March 23 as part of a regular maintenance program. The National Park Service is pulling the dock from the water for repairs and possible rebuilding.
