Public input sought for jury changes

Monday, March 11, 2002 | 8:26 a.m.

The public is invited to the Nevada Supreme Court's Jury Improvement Commission's final hearing, 1 p.m. Friday in the Clark County Courthouse jury orientation room.

The hearing is the last of three held in Las Vegas to discuss what improvements can be made to the jury system. Former jurors, attorneys and judges offered their input at prior hearings.

Recommendations will be made in July.

"The commission's ultimate recommendations should be based on a variety of information provided to it," said Justice Deborah Agosti, who is co-chairing the commission with Justice Bob Rose. "We welcome the comments and suggestions from the public."

Jurors from the Ted Binion and Ronald Rudin murder cases, as well as those from other trials, met in November.

They suggested eliminating exemptions from jury duty, providing more information to jurors before jury selection and providing jurors with notebooks including trial exhibits.

Other suggestions included increased juror pay and exemptions.
